Something about being surrounded by hundreds of super cars, customs, race retrofitted and classic cars from every era could alleviate any worries on my mind. I attended regularly after discovering this monthly paradise with a backdrop of the San Francisco skyline, lines of Ferrari 20 deep brought me to my literal knees for the right angles in worship to the gods who design the cars we idolize. Before long the desire to photograph their true art in motion prompted me to find a little bravery to show up to someone else's party, the Brakefast Rally.
Cellphone snaps from Treasure Island
Most think this world to be inaccessible by the common man but it is mostly that very notion that is keeping car enthusiasts distanced from other enthusiasts. A love for cars is all that's required. In the beginning I was too shy to simply say it but I somehow managed to communicate it by showing up bright-eyed, religiously and hella early on weekend mornings to hang out the window at break neck speed all for the car porn. Not just any crazy, car crazy, something we can all connect to no matter what we drive.
My first attempt was en route to Treasure Island which was host to the largest of the San Francisco Cars & Coffee crowds even in the dawn hours of a very chilly December morning. From the safety of the Infiniti's passenger seat I was frustrated the narrow frame through which I could catch a car in all it's blurry glory with only my lens protruding past the window. Upon upload, not until we get home, do we reveal either the brilliance or the failure in our shoot. Like reflection on any opportunity we've had there is something to be learned from our failures.
The driver philosophy is very much life being more about the journey but where there is a drive there is a destination. Reaching our destination is not the end.
#TREADLYFE happened. I never thought it up on my own. It was proven to me observing the support for the events, seeing how much people wanted to connect with each other and they were doing it through cars. No matter how awkward a new impression feels we always find a common subject to comfortably fall right into acceptance. It's a mission to connect car crazies. it's about the miles we rack up and the tread we burn to live a lifestyle in the fast lane.
The TREADLYFE team has a lot of work to do in 2017.
In the homestretch of 2016 the final days of December are winding down for us all, for some the year was filled with hard lessons while others found their biggest strides but it was a year none the less a year to remember.
From this year I present to you my memories of a thrilling, uplifting on the roads of Northern California.
